Months of service by both Cayman Island and San Diego volunteers, culminated in the unveiling of a statue at Health Services Authority/George Town Hospital. The sculpture was designed to create a legacy piece that would remind everyone in the community about the Do Something World campaign for years to come. In the Old Testament, when a significant moment occurred, the people would set up stones of remembrance. The monument created by two artists who donated their time and materials commemorates all of the service done by the Cayman and San Diego volunteers.

Each day, the Sports Ministry visits a different school. They conduct skateboarding, volleyball, basketball, and soccer clinics for the students, all as a platform to share the Gospel. Pastor Miles has been visiting all of the projects. At several of the sites, Cayman government officials have met with Pastor Miles to thank him for the work that is being done.

On Wednesday, Rolston Anglin, the Minister of Education, and Christen Suckoo, the Deputy Chief Officer for Ministry of Education visited John A. Cumber with Pastor Miles. John A. Cumber Primary school has been the site for two of the Miles Ahead teams this week. Both the Community Projects team and Medical team have been helping the students and faculty on the outside and inside.

Later that morning, Pastor Miles and Pastor Al held a press conference at Black Pearl, site of this weekend’s upcoming festival. Attended by local sponsors and well covered by the media, it was evident that both pastors shared an excitement about the Do Something World campaign, and the success of the service projects undertaken by the local Cayman community over recent months.

Local pastors and festival sponsors also were in attendance at the press conference. Over 40 churches and 17 companies are partnering together to host what is expected to be the largest event of it’s kind in Cayman history. View photos: Press Conference

Growing up, Tim watched his dad steal to support his drug habit. While his dad made money from stealing, he would spend it all on drugs. In order to make ends meet, his mom would take the kids stand outside the grocery store and beg.

“I saw my dad’s arms full of sores from doing drugs and I didn’t understand where all his money was going and why he was always broke.”

Rather than learn from his dad’s mistakes, Tim started doing drugs by age 15. He eventually found himself using drugs everyday and selling them to support his habit. His drug addiction took him down a road of wrong choices, which led him to two prison terms. After he got out of jail, Tim felt desperate and alone. He cried out to God and asked Him to change his life. Now, Tim now helps with the Prison Ministry. Rather than forget about his past, Tim has allowed God to use his past to minister to others. <a

Tim shares why he does prison ministry, “Pastor Miles challenges us to go outside the four walls of the church and do something. I am using my experience to try and impact others for Christ.”

Whether it’s a men’s prison, women’s prison, or juvenile hall, the Prison Ministry is committed to sharing God’s love with the inmates. They are working alongside Cayman pastors and churches who have adopted the local prisons to put on chapel services and Bible studies. In addition to worship and prayer, some of the members of the Prison Ministry share their testimonies of how God has helped them overcome their addictions. Watch William share his testimony.

Prison Ministry – just one of the many Do Something World projects going on this week in Cayman. Stay tuned for more project updates.

John A. Cumber Primary School (grades 1-6, boys and girls) is the home of two projects. Both the Community Project Team and the Medical Team are serving the students and faculty of the school. The Community Projects team is expanding 12 classrooms, providing 3500 square feet of additional classroom space. The Do Something World volunteers are helping save the school $1.2 million in labor! The Medical Team is conducting a week-long medical education workshop with the students. Through activities and coloring books, the Medical team is teaching the students how to make healthy food choices.
